City of Downey
The contract for the City of Downey involved various projects including improving the Civic Theatre plaza for better accessibility, modernizing the theatre’s courtyard, building a library café shade structure, renovating the police station, and the constructing of the firefighters’ memorial. The project was completed in June 2020.
Civic Theatre Plaza
The Civic Theatre Plaza and courtyard underwent a comprehensive transformation, featuring a completely new layout of paved and landscape areas enclosed by a 8-foot block wall. The renovation introduced curved stairs, a center circular fountain with a sculptural centerpiece, nine palm trees, and an array of plants. The project also incorporated new light fixtures, illuminated handrails, and fencing. Additionally, a new exterior elevator, supported by an exposed steel tower and enclosed with glazing, was installed.
In tribute to the City's fallen firefighters, a memorial was erected adjacent to City Hall.
The firefighter’s memorial consists of a pedestal as the centerpiece with a bronze statue of a kneeling firefighter on top it. The pedestal is complemented by a circular concrete seating arrangement & new landscaping. Work consisted of demolition of existing landscape and hardscape, and installation of new hardscape, landscape, concrete seating, pedestal, and lighting.
Police Station Modernization

Library's Café
The library café courtyard improvement consisted of a new tube steel shade structure with a canvas awning matching the colors of the City of Downey. Work includes the demolition of existing hardscape, and installation of new footings, brick finish floor and the large steel structure to support the shades of the canopy.
